What is life like in school in a pandemic?
Life in school has completely changed into a whole new realm during the pandemic.
The new way of learning in school with online remote learning has been such a challenging learning experience and has taken away the enjoyable elements of learning in a school environment.
With schools closed and exams cancelled for all the GCSE and A-level students, we have experienced major impacts and damages on many of us and our mental health. With predicted grades, many not getting the grades they wanted and needed, therefore missing out on important education for their future, we have felt abandoned.
It has made so many young people lose hope in themselves and the faith they held on to chasing after their dreams and passions for the future.
Learning from home has been a massive struggle for myself. I know I can speak on behalf on many teenagers across this pandemic-ridden globe trying to cope while trying to teach ourselves. We complete our schoolwork at home without physical guidance and cannot get the help we need from staff who can only assist through emails. We are all stuck at home protecting our loved ones from this pandemic while still being expected to perform at maximum capacity. It is a challenging, stressful task.
The online lessons and trying to complete a year of my education through online school is my not my strength, though I know it cannot be helped. It does not resemble ordinary school life as it was before the pandemic. This year of online learning has opened my eyes to what I took for granted being at school. It has made me more appreciative of what I had before.
I miss being in school and physically being there and learning in a classroom with my peers.
I miss being able to see my friends and hang out with them 6 hours a day almost every day throughout the school year.
I miss the school vibes, the craic, the banter, the laughs you have with your school mates and the unwavering support your friends give you to achieve success.
I even miss the staff, the help we received when we needed it and the push we got to achieve our best.
Though I do see the light at the end of the tunnel. I do believe that we’ve got this, we are over the worst of this and we will be back together again soon.
